The Longest Road

Almost makes me want to drop some X.

I fired up my P2P program to download the tracks I heard on satellite radio. That’s what I do, drive down the boulevard, hitting the buttons, and when I hear something that piques my interest, tickles my fancy, that I MUST hear again, I write it down.

So, I’m looking for the Finn Brothers’ "Suffer Never", which I heard on the Loft. And this Levon Helm cut, "False Hearted Lover", from the Sirius Spectrum, and Xavier Rudd’s cover of "No Woman No Cry" from that outlet’s Coffee House. And this cut by Morgan Page entitled "The Longest Road", which believe I heard on XMU.

Only one problem, I’m getting multiple mixes of Morgan’s track, so I decide to fire up Safari to do a little research. Turns out the guy is a…REMIXER?

I remembered this as something acoustic, somebody singing with a guitar, but that was days ago, maybe I was confused. But now I’m flummoxed, Morgan’s site is all about other acts. And a cursory search of the Wikipedia turns up nothing. But it turns out this guy has a MySpace page. With two mixes of "The Longest Road". I fire up the first, the "Original Mix", and continue my research.

There’s a YouTube link with a woman, named Lissie… Is she the act?

I go back to my P2P program to look for more results, more clarity, meanwhile "The Longest Road" is continuing to play in MySpace. Wait a second, is this part of dance culture, something that has eluded me? I mean I’m not a mindless dancer. But as the song wears on, towards its almost six minute ultimate length, I’m thinking that maybe I am… I just want the music to inhabit my head and let my body move.

And then I’m enraptured by the Deadmau5 mix. The only problem is it’s TOO SHORT!

So often I hear something new in the car and when I get home and play it I’m left less than impressed. But not with "The Longest Road"… I’m listening now, and I’m ELATED!
