"The Man Who Owns L.A."
(Connie Bruck’s article on Phil Anschutz in this week’s "New Yorker")
Suddenly, the New Hampshire primary has become a referendum on private equity. What Barack Obama could not achieve, Newt Gingrich and the Super PACs might accomplish. And that’s to shine a light on banking in this country and ultimately change the course of our nation.
Credit Occupy Wall Street for igniting the debate. It got the rank and file to pay attention to the inequities, the gap between rich and poor, when the mainstream media refused to.
And then you’ve got Mitt Romney, who’s too stupid to be President. Anybody that rich, anybody that heinous, should stay out of the public eye, like Phil Anschutz. You don’t want to draw attention to yourself when you’re a robber baron, you just reap the rewards and enjoy the lifestyle.
Even the "Wall Street Journal" detailed Romney’s transgressions.
So where does this leave you?
It’s a sea change, a revolutionary moment, a time to decide whether you’re with us or them. Because suddenly, the proletariat has power.
After being attacked as a dying company, the CEO of Best Buy defended the corporation.
Oops, his own employees took to the Internet to dispute what he had to say.
Just like the paid off Congressmen are clueless as to the true meaning/effects of SOPA, the ruling class has got no idea how the game is played anymore. They just don’t realize the increase in power of the public. When you make decisions in your monetary favor, screwing the public in the process, expect outrage.
The correction factor is no longer the law, but the people. Wanna win in the future? Get on the side of the public. They’ll tear down everything inequitable in their way. The public cares about music, but not copyrights. Trying to teach people a lesson is fruitless.
Now when it comes to Mr. Anschutz, what you’ve got to know is AEG writes some pretty big checks to talent. But what kind of artist wants to support Anschutz’s agenda? Where’s the outcry?
The artists are out of touch. They’re silent. They’re just at the tail end of the money grab and it’s gonna come back to haunt them. When we had a middle class society, everybody wasn’t so cash-focused, so greedy. But without the public pumping in its dollars, you’ve got nothing. It’s always depended on the people, it’s just that they had no voice before.
But now they do.
What is going on in America is equivalent to what happened in the Middle East a year ago. There’s no Republican overseer who can get the candidates in line, to force them to avoid immolation. And the Republican Supreme Court made it so corporate money is out of control, feeding the fire. This is what decades of self-interest has wrought.
What’s going on in our country is better than any movie. The talking heads on TV are clueless, whether it be the commentators or the anchors themselves. Because they do no reporting. And suddenly, it’s all about the facts.
Pay attention here. America has become unmoored. It’s no longer business as usual. It’s not about Republicans or Democrats, it is about class warfare. How come so few are so rich and so many are so poor?
Mitt Romney was worried about losing his job?
That’s like saying a legacy won’t get into Yale or a famous entertainment icon’s kid is gonna lose his job in the industry.
Never ever happens.
And people are learning this.
And people are pissed.
And people are speaking up.
"The Man Who Owns L.A."(It’s only an excerpt, right now you’ve got to be a subscriber to read it. Don’t underestimate Connie Bruck. The government may have put Michael Milken in jail, but it was her book "The Predators’ Ball" that truly ruined his reputation.)
"Romney at Bain Capital: Big Gains, Some Busts"(Give the "Wall Street Journal" some credit, they know when they’ve got a winner, this article is not behind the pay wall. The capitalist paper of record bends over backward not to indict Romney’s efforts at Bain Capital, but ultimately it does.)
"Harder for Americans to Rise From Lower Rungs""Romney Is Focus as Battle in G.O.P. Takes Sharp Edge"
"PAC Ads to Attack Romney as Predatory Capitalist"The three previous articles are from "The New York Times". Read the second two to get a snapshot of what’s going on re Romney and Bain right now. But if you don’t trust the "Times", read Tuesday’s "Wall Street Journal", which tells the same story:
"Rivals Attack Romney on Bain"
(Unfortunately, this article is presently behind a pay wall.)
"My Thoughts on Best Buy’s Recent Media Coverage"
(Read the comments! Employees used to be too afraid to go on the record, never mind the fact they rarely had the ability.)
