Adele “Rolling In The Deep”

This is so on the right track I couldn’t help but tell you.

Give Rick Rubin credit.  He’s searching for quality seemingly uninterested in trends/the Top Forty, and as result he can create something truly great.  Not everything he does hits, not everything he does is classic, but the sound of this track is so right, it reminds me of those basement party scenes in "Quadrophenia", the best rock movie ever made in case you haven’t seen it.

This is like that Duffy cut, but with more than one hook.  And when Adele belts you want to stand up and thrust your arms in the air!

Yes, maybe its magic comes from its similarity to Gnarls’ Barkley’s "Crazy" in the chorus, but it’s not as similar as Lady Antebellum’s "Need You Now" is to Alan Parsons’ "Eye In The Sky"

and the rest of the track is dissimilar enough to be its own unique product.

The background vocals would be better on vinyl, or mixed up a bit, still…

The track starts out so quiet, it’s intimate and pregnant with a tale yet to be revealed.

Then the pounding drum.  You’re nodding your head.

Then that little pre-chorus, that enraptures you.

Then the chorus!

This is not a novelty, this is not Cee-Lo’s "F___  You".  There’s no gimmick here, other than a hearkening back to what once was to create something totally fresh, something totally new.

Adele doesn’t look like this record sounds, but that’s part of its magic, music is what comes from INSIDE!

Re: Adele "Rolling In The Deep"

While Rick did produce most of the record, Paul Epworth produced "Rolling In The Deep". He’s also produced Bloc Party, Florence + The Machine, Cee-Lo, Kate Nash, Maximo Park, The Rapture etc.

The majority are actually incorrectly giving Rick Rubin credit, but this single was indeed Epworth.

Brandon

PS – This song is a fucking JAM nonetheless.
