Re-I Gotta Try<\/a><\/p>\n

Most times you write a song and you never know if anyone\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153get\u00e2\u20ac\u009d it.<\/p>\n

When Mike and I wrote \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Gotta Try\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I thought it was the third best thing we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d written, just behind “This is It” and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What a fool\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6\u00e2\u20ac\u009d We had high hopes. But we both missed the nerve, and it became the one that got away. (I learned the hard way that when you write with McD, you gotta use him on the recording. Not just singing, but also especially playing! He is unique that way.)<\/p>\n

But as to songs like \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Gotta Try,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the one thing I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve learned over the years is that the ones who need that kind of lyric will hear it when it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s time. You got it exactly as we intended it. The timing was perfect.

You might be interested to know that that tradition of writing songs that will hopefully matter to someone continues today with myself, Gary Burr and Georgia Middleman, the three of us calling ourselves Blue Sky Riders. \nBSR is a fool\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s paradise for me, a chapter three that exists for us to get to keep exercising our creativity and hopefully prolong some inkling of sanity.<\/p>\n

So thank you again for understanding \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Gotta Try\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and writing about it. I feel vindicated now. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Oh\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6and you should know that Michael\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s still writing great songs. Mike is the musical equivalent of dark\u00c2\u00a0 chocolate, so the world OD\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ed on his stuff in the \u00e2\u20ac\u212280\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s. But miraculously, his voice had that amazing comeback when Motown signed him to make a few cover records. But his own compositions were off limits. Hopefully some day he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll get back to recording his own stuff before his time is up. I consider him an American Treasure.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
