these guys should read a BOOK!\u00c2\u00a0 Know that to have a successful novel you&#8217;ve got to have a plot, got to TOUCH PEOPLE!<\/p>\n<p>They used to call it the MUSIC business.\u00c2\u00a0 But now it&#8217;s just business.\u00c2\u00a0 Shit, these assholes could be selling ANYTHING!\u00c2\u00a0 Crap just as evanescent as the hula-hoop, but not remembered for as long&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Marketing is the number one criterion today, not the tunes.\u00c2\u00a0 How it sounds is secondary to the attack, how one plans to crack the market.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s kind of like our government.\u00c2\u00a0 Let&#8217;s swing our dicks and topple Saddam.\u00c2\u00a0 BUT THEN WHAT??<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever heard someone wax rhapsodic about TIDE?\u00c2\u00a0 THAT&#8217;S a brand.\u00c2\u00a0 The Beatles were a BAND!\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not about the peripheral chozzerai, but the MUSIC ITSELF!<\/p>\n<p>The music is its OWN brand.\u00c2\u00a0 The music should be able to speak IRRELEVANT of what the players look like, irrelevant of the sell.<\/p>\n<p>The old executives knew this.\u00c2\u00a0 They searched for excellence.\u00c2\u00a0 Look at A&amp;M, they didn&#8217;t sign the same vapid pop crap again and again, just a wide variety of shit that SOUNDED GOOD!\u00c2\u00a0 Same deal with Bob Krasnow&#8217;s Elektra.<\/p>\n<p>Can you blame Charlie Walk?\u00c2\u00a0 He grew up in the eighties.\u00c2\u00a0 When it was about getting your video on television and blowing it up.\u00c2\u00a0 Paying complicit radio stations to play along.\u00c2\u00a0 The game was more important than the act.<\/p>\n<p>Hell, you only know what you&#8217;re exposed to.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, there&#8217;s no hope for the institutions.\u00c2\u00a0 The people in charge just don&#8217;t understand, they&#8217;re blind.\u00c2\u00a0 They need to be retrained, reeducated.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;ve got it all topsy-turvy.\u00c2\u00a0 They think the SYSTEM eclipses the ACT!<\/p>\n<p>What the FUCK is wrong with a TRADITIONAL record label?\u00c2\u00a0 A traditional record label finds great music and sells it.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a FILTER!\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s its primary role.\u00c2\u00a0 A seal of approval.\u00c2\u00a0 Bringing great shit to the masses.<\/p>\n<p>Ain&#8217;t that a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>Remember when if it wasn&#8217;t on a major label you weren&#8217;t interested?<\/p>\n<p>Now if it&#8217;s ON a major label you&#8217;re not interested!\u00c2\u00a0 What kind of lame, soulless person would put his music in the hands of the man?<\/p>\n<p>God, even SNL goes with indie acts now.<\/p>\n<p>The brand is the name, the LOGO!\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not what&#8217;s contained THEREIN!<\/p>\n<p>And even the BEST brands are INANIMATE!\u00c2\u00a0 You don&#8217;t want to take your BMW to bed.\u00c2\u00a0 You don&#8217;t want to park it in your hospital room.\u00c2\u00a0 It can&#8217;t phone you at night and calm you down, soothe you.<\/p>\n<p>But MUSIC can achieve all of the foregoing.\u00c2\u00a0 MUSIC is a companion, a friend that&#8217;s THERE FOR YOU!<\/p>\n<p>But too much of what is sold today doesn&#8217;t fit these criteria.\u00c2\u00a0 What&#8217;s on the disc, in the file, is just a cog in an extended money machine.\u00c2\u00a0 With an endless chain of cigar-chomping fat cats no better than appliance salesmen taking their cut.\u00c2\u00a0 Used to be an HONOR to sell music.\u00c2\u00a0 Now it&#8217;s for CHUMPS!<\/p>\n<p>The younger generation is not the same as those running the labels.\u00c2\u00a0 They NEVER lived through good radio.\u00c2\u00a0 MTV&#8217;s been a joke their whole lives.\u00c2\u00a0 Music discovery on the Net is a WAY OF LIFE!\u00c2\u00a0 When the RIAA companies say they should do it the old way they don&#8217;t even laugh, THEY&#8217;RE NOT PAYING ATTENTION!<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re building brands, go work for Procter &amp;
