{"id":454,"date":"2006-06-21T20:05:16","date_gmt":"2006-06-22T04:05:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lefsetz.com\/wordpress\/index.php\/archives\/2006\/06\/21\/my-xm-playlist\/"},"modified":"2006-06-21T20:13:56","modified_gmt":"2006-06-22T04:13:56","slug":"my-xm-playlist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lefsetz.com\/wordpress\/2006\/06\/21\/my-xm-playlist\/","title":{"rendered":"My XM Playlist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was Mike Marrone&#8217;s fiftieth birthday.\u00c2\u00a0 And he had the idea that I should substitute for him on the Loft.\u00c2\u00a0 So, when I was at XM two weeks ago, we created six hours of programming.\u00c2\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t turn on the radio yesterday until about four, an hour after I started, but when I pushed the button on my boombox, I was shocked.\u00c2\u00a0 Because it was my choices.\u00c2\u00a0 And then me, coming over the airwaves.<\/p>\n<p>Now Mike has got 13,000 plus songs in his library.\u00c2\u00a0 And I was rushing to catch a plane.\u00c2\u00a0 So, I quickly picked tracks.\u00c2\u00a0 After hearing myself I was so elated that I fired up my Inno and recorded what was left of my show.\u00c2\u00a0 People always ask me what I listen to, well, here you go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. &quot;Over My Head&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Fleetwood Mac<\/p>\n<p>They say it&#8217;s about Stevie Nicks, I&#8217;ve always been in love with Christine McVie.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;s more accessible.\u00c2\u00a0 And when she sings about being in love, I feel like it could be me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. &quot;White Ladder&quot;<\/strong><br \/>David Gray<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think he&#8217;s equaled this effort on his last two albums, but the album from which this is the title track is enchanting.\u00c2\u00a0 Not just the hit &quot;Babylon&quot;, but stuff like &quot;My Oh My&quot; and &quot;Silver Lining&quot;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. &quot;Never Stop&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Jackson Browne<\/p>\n<p>From &quot;The Naked Ride Home&quot;.<br \/>I like Jackson when he&#8217;s acoustic.\u00c2\u00a0 But this album is more rock.\u00c2\u00a0 But the heartfelt lyrics and groove here, if you&#8217;re a fan of his DOWNLOAD THIS!\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s a change almost all the way through that will not only put you through the bends but will connect you with everybody you&#8217;ve ever been in love with.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s just that magical.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. &quot;A Long Time, A Long Way To Go&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Todd Rundgren<\/p>\n<p>The best Runt song ever.\u00c2\u00a0 All the talent, all the beauty, encapsulated in just over two minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. &quot;New York Tendaberry&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Laura Nyro<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been meaning to write something about &quot;Save The Country&quot; for weeks now.\u00c2\u00a0 Not only where is the antiwar protest, where are the PACIFISTS?\u00c2\u00a0 But that&#8217;s a rocker, and this is so intimate and vulnerable&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s heart in this that you&#8217;ll never ever see on television or in the movies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. &quot;Sixty Years On&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Elton John<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Take Me To The Pilot&quot; got me hooked on Elton.\u00c2\u00a0 But all these years later it&#8217;s &quot;Sixty Years On&quot; and &quot;The King Must Die&quot; I keep listening to.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. &quot;Seasons&quot;<br \/><\/strong>Steve Miller<\/p>\n<p>Hearing this track on DeepTracks in January 2003 sold me on XM.\u00c2\u00a0 You think Steve Miller is the dittymaster?\u00c2\u00a0 Then you haven&#8217;t heard THIS!\u00c2\u00a0 EXQUISITE!<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. &quot;Heart Of The Night&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Poco<\/p>\n<p>Funnily enough, Poco didn&#8217;t have hits until all the key frontmen were gone.\u00c2\u00a0 Even the SUBSTITUTE frontmen, like Timothy B. Schmit.\u00c2\u00a0 Great looping groove here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. &quot;Isn&#8217;t Always Love&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Karla Bonoff<\/p>\n<p><em>Well isn&#8217;t it always love that makes you hang your head<br \/>And isn&#8217;t it always love that makes you cry<br \/>And isn&#8217;t it always love that takes the tears away<br \/>And you wouldn&#8217;t have it any other way<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Unknown by today&#8217;s generation, but not forgotten by we who bought her debut Columbia album.\u00c2\u00a0 Truth and vulnerability.\u00c2\u00a0 Better than any Ronstadt record, a MUST HAVE!<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. &quot;This Is Us&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Mark Knopfler\/Emmylou Harris<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t burn out on it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. &quot;Hide and Seek&quot;<br \/><\/strong>Howard Jones<\/p>\n<p>The best song off his debut.\u00c2\u00a0 So quiet, so meaningful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12. &quot;Today&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Jefferson Airplane<\/p>\n<p>So beautiful as to almost not believe it&#8217;s real.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13. &quot;Jeannie&#8217;s Diary&quot;<br \/><\/strong>Eels<\/p>\n<p>The most played song in my iTunes library, presently at 225 complete spins, never mind iPod plays.<\/p>\n<p><em>I don&#8217;t have a chance at writing the book<br \/>I just want to be a page, in Jeannie&#8217;s diary<br \/>One single page<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>14. &quot;Magazines&quot;<\/strong><br \/>Duncan Sheik<\/p>\n<p>My favorite song by him.\u00c2\u00a0 Heard it first on the Loft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>15. &quot;Baby Come Home&quot;<\/strong><br \/>J.D.
