&#8211; The Independent<\/a><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Read this article.\u00c2\u00a0 From &quot;The Independent&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 Linked to by &quot;Record Of The Day&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re a couple of years and a couple of changes ahead of us in the U.K. when it comes to festivals.\u00c2\u00a0 Coachella and Bonnaroo can thrive, like Glastonbury.\u00c2\u00a0 Lollapalooza too, if for no reason other than its location.\u00c2\u00a0 And hell, I&#8217;ll throw in Austin City Limits.<\/p>\n<p>But if you think you can book a bunch of bands and get tens of thousands of people to come, you&#8217;re dreaming.<\/p>\n<p>Glastonbury is bigger than the acts that take the stage.\u00c2\u00a0 Most festivals are not.\u00c2\u00a0 And even successful festivals are rarely a joy to attend, but a rite of passage.<\/p>\n<p>The live business is in trouble.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re just not building enough new acts that people want to see.<\/p>\n<p>People do want to see that which is brand new and fresh.<\/p>\n<p>But they&#8217;re more interested in seeing someone who&#8217;s been around for a while, who has a body of work, who has a career.<\/p>\n<p>___________________________________________<br \/><br style=\"font-weight: bold;\" \/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Shania Twain In Vegas<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A stiff.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;s the LeBron James of music.\u00c2\u00a0 People hate her.<\/p>\n<p>And without her ex-husband Mutt Lange, the best music producer in the world, she&#8217;s positively third rate.<\/p>\n<p>She was beautiful, she had catchy music, then she broadened her image, played to the mainstream as opposed to the country core&#8230;remember the multiple iterations of her last album?\u00c2\u00a0 The pop version, the international version&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s been away for too long.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s seen as a self-centered narcissist.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got no inside knowledge, but this won&#8217;t be a winner.\u00c2\u00a0 Can&#8217;t be.\u00c2\u00a0 Not at these prices.\u00c2\u00a0 Not for long.<\/p>\n<p>___________________________________________<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px;\">\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/06\/20\/business\/media\/20adco.html?_r=1\">&quot;Bargains on Flash Sale Sites Serve a Long-Range View&quot;<\/a><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Live Nation shouldn&#8217;t have tied up with Groupon, they should have built a flash site, and kept all the money.<\/p>\n<p>But the executives are too busy counting their stock options to put their ears to the ground and see what&#8217;s really happening.<\/p>\n<p>People are addicted to flash sites.\u00c2\u00a0 They check them each and every day.\u00c2\u00a0 They want the e-mail, they want the discount.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, instead of trying to sell unwanted inventory to &quot;stars&quot; playing buildings too large, promoters should be utilizing flash sites to introduce audiences to new and upcoming acts!<\/p>\n<p>Read this article.\u00c2\u00a0 The discount doesn&#8217;t cheapen the merchandise, it builds the brands!<\/p>\n<p>So if only Live Nation curated its offers.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s why these sites work, the offers are good.\u00c2\u00a0 And you went every day trying to score cheap tickets to great new acts&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 Hell, this is how you find out about new acts, this is how you break them, this is how you get name recognition!<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s see, I wrote about flash sites in October of 2009: <a title=\"Flash Sales\" href=\"http:\/\/lefsetz.com\/wordpress\/index.php\/archives\/2009\/10\/29\/flash-sales\/\">Flash Sales<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This story is hiding in plain sight.<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t go with the flash in the pan, you don&#8217;t go with the now denigrated Groupon, you go with the proven winner.\u00c2\u00a0 Flash sites.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, offer GOOD seats at a discount to the stars who don&#8217;t sell out, that&#8217;s how you create word of mouth around the show.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m going, ARE YOU?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Turntable.fm This is the hottest thing going.
