{"id":3815,"date":"2011-02-12T19:43:27","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T03:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lefsetz.com\/wordpress\/?p=3815"},"modified":"2011-02-12T19:43:27","modified_gmt":"2011-02-13T03:43:27","slug":"roundup-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lefsetz.com\/wordpress\/2011\/02\/12\/roundup-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Roundup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">GUITAR HERO<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It was a fad.\u00c2\u00a0 Stuns me that a business that specializes in selling fads didn&#8217;t realize this.\u00c2\u00a0 Ringtones were going to save the music industry, then ringbacks and Guitar Hero\/Rock Band.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;re all fads.\u00c2\u00a0 In the modern tech world you get in early and get out early, just like with a musical fad.\u00c2\u00a0 Give props to Scooter Braun and his Justin Bieber movie.\u00c2\u00a0 Because it won&#8217;t be long before there&#8217;s no fever surrounding the Bieber.\u00c2\u00a0 How do I know?\u00c2\u00a0 Because I&#8217;ve lived long enough to see everybody from the Monkees to NKOTB to the boy bands to Miley Cyrus come and go.\u00c2\u00a0 And let&#8217;s not forget Leif Garrett&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">LADY GAGA\/EXPRESS YOURSELF<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&quot;Express Yourself&quot; was a hit in 1989.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s twenty two years ago.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of GaGa&#8217;s fans hadn&#8217;t reached consciousness or weren&#8217;t even born yet.\u00c2\u00a0 No one cares.\u00c2\u00a0 And &quot;Express Yourself&quot; was a good record!<\/p>\n<p><br style=\"font-weight: bold;\" \/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">PEAS AT THE SUPER BOWL<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Of course they sucked.\u00c2\u00a0 But they weren&#8217;t playing for you, they were playing for the mainstream.\u00c2\u00a0 The Hold Steady are never going to play the Super Bowl, get over it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">THE GRAMMY SHOW<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Train-wreck incarnate.\u00c2\u00a0 The same people complaining about the Peas are gonna bitch about this show.\u00c2\u00a0 But never forget, it&#8217;s about television, not music, it&#8217;s about ratings, not quality.\u00c2\u00a0 Just like radio is about advertisements, not content.\u00c2\u00a0 Don&#8217;t get your knickers in a twist.\u00c2\u00a0 The show is meaningless.\u00c2\u00a0 Just a celebration of what once was in the mainstream.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, most of the stars will be gone tomorrow.\u00c2\u00a0 And the audience doesn&#8217;t care, it&#8217;s too addicted to Facebook.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">EGYPT<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We were there first, music fans already revolted.\u00c2\u00a0 They killed not only the album, but the major labels.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re living in an era of chaos.\u00c2\u00a0 To complain is to be Mubarak.\u00c2\u00a0 The audience was oppressed for too long, given an opportunity to go its own way, it did.\u00c2\u00a0 Remind me how it helped the audience to have to buy a fifteen dollar CD to hear the one track that was a hit?
