Beatles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Forgive the skiing at the advent.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s necessary to explain how I discovered the band.\u00c2\u00a0 Then again, if you want to know what I&#8217;m talking about, go to:\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madriverglen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mad River Glen<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Mountains don&#8217;t look steep in photographs, and the steepest parts of Mad River are not as much of a free-fall as those at Stowe, but the pitch is sustained, there are no flat spots, and the trails are narrow and ungroomed, the rocks and terrain changes have been left in.\u00c2\u00a0 If you want to get even a FULLER flavor, go to: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madriverglen.com\/movies\/\">Mad River Glen Movies<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and watch some movies.<\/p>\n<p>And now comes the spoiler&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I have a favorite Beatles track.\u00c2\u00a0 And, it&#8217;s not &quot;All You Need Is Love&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 Or &quot;Hey Jude&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 A casual fan might not even know it.\u00c2\u00a0 It appeared on &quot;Beatles VI&quot; in the U.S.A.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s entitled &quot;Every Little Thing&quot;.<\/p>\n<p><em>When I&#8217;m walking beside her<br \/>People tell me I&#8217;m lucky<br \/>Yes, I know I&#8217;m a lucky guy<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Only to have John Lennon alive today.\u00c2\u00a0 To hear that VOICE!\u00c2\u00a0 Singing songs from somewhere deep inside that nothing in society seems to touch.\u00c2\u00a0 THAT&#8217;S the power of music.\u00c2\u00a0 No movie, no television, no VIDEO GAME can reach that spot.\u00c2\u00a0 Which is why all that b.s. about competition for the entertainment dollar is bullshit.\u00c2\u00a0 Great music trumps EVERYTHING!\u00c2\u00a0 Get infected by a song and you&#8217;ve got to OWN IT!\u00c2\u00a0 Which is why rental will never work.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s kind of like getting married.\u00c2\u00a0 You can live together, but you want that ring, as evidence of the COMMITMENT!\u00c2\u00a0 You don&#8217;t want &quot;Every Little Thing&quot; to VANISH, you want to be able to COUNT ON IT!<\/p>\n<p>Then again, John Lennon wouldn&#8217;t sing &quot;Every Little Thing&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t believe in nostalgia.\u00c2\u00a0 You can bet he&#8217;d never do what Paul McCartney&#8217;s doing.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh, he&#8217;d go on Conan O&#8217;Brien and borrow a guitar and play a classic Beatle track, but it wouldn&#8217;t be something you could PLAN for, set your TiVo for, buy a ticket for.\u00c2\u00a0 It would be spur of the moment, off the cuff.<\/p>\n<p>Then again, John is dead.\u00c2\u00a0 What would Jim Morrison be like if he were alive today.\u00c2\u00a0 John&#8217;s long since left a connection with the man.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s like Jesus.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s been infused with all our hopes and dreams.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s what he REPRESENTS that counts.\u00c2\u00a0 Along with his music.<\/p>\n<p>If you listen to the podcast, you&#8217;ll find out my DENTIST turned me on to &quot;Every Little Thing&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 On a ski trip.\u00c2\u00a0 To Mad River Glen.\u00c2\u00a0 In February of 1970.<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn&#8217;t the Beatles&#8217; version, but the cover by YES!<\/p>\n<p>Oh, don&#8217;t stop reading.\u00c2\u00a0 Don&#8217;t think of overblown solos played by prima donnas.\u00c2\u00a0 This was the FIRST Yes album.\u00c2\u00a0 When the band was still in control.\u00c2\u00a0 Before Jon Anderson donned caftans, before &quot;prog rock&quot; became a pejorative.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve probably never heard the first Yes album.\u00c2\u00a0 Let me take you to a land decades back, when the world was much BIGGER!\u00c2\u00a0 When everybody wasn&#8217;t hooked into the Internet, when you felt isolated, when albums were sold hand to hand and bands were broken on the road.\u00c2\u00a0 When you went to see acts no one else had ever heard of and MARVELED at the sheer greatness of their performance and told everybody about them.<\/p>\n<p>Hype&#8217;s out of control today.\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s a layer of media between you and the act.\u00c2\u00a0 But listening to the very first Yes album you can hear the DESIRE of the musicians.\u00c2\u00a0 The desire to create something great, that will move them from their hometowns in England around the WORLD!<\/p>\n<p>Well, even if you don&#8217;t buy all that, listen to at least the 5:15 mark to hear &quot;Every Little Thing&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 Musicologist that you are, I know you&#8217;ll enjoy it.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p>You can subscribe to the podcast in the iTunes Music Store.\u00c2\u00a0 Just search for Rhino, click on &quot;Podcasts&quot;
