The media loves a pre-delineated story.\u00c2\u00a0 But real life ain’t that way.\u00c2\u00a0 You’ve got to play to find out the results.\u00c2\u00a0 Which are oftentimes surprising.<\/p>\n
Truth is stranger than fiction?<\/p>\n
Absolutely.<\/p>\n
Used to be the mainstream media controlled the narrative.<\/p>\n
Now, online, the picture is much hazier.\u00c2\u00a0 You’ve got full time fans defining the story for their brethren, and then when the occasional lurkers weigh in, they show their lack of knowledge.<\/p>\n
So let’s say Lindsey Vonn doesn’t win another medal.\u00c2\u00a0 She probably will, she should triumph in the Super-G.\u00c2\u00a0 Odds are much lower in GS, especially slalom.\u00c2\u00a0 But let’s say Lindsey does not.\u00c2\u00a0 And Julia Mancuso ends up with her two silver medals.\u00c2\u00a0 Does she become the story?\u00c2\u00a0 Can she become America’s sweetheart?<\/p>\n
Or does the fact that her hair veers towards brunette instead of blond and she didn’t grow up with all the advantages mean that we can’t rally around her?<\/p>\n
