Try getting a product in a supermarket.\u00c2\u00a0 You pay a slotting fee, and if it doesn&#8217;t sell, you&#8217;re yanked from the shelf, no matter how much money you want to throw at the proprietor.\u00c2\u00a0 Supermarkets only want what the people want.<\/p>\n<p>And the people want Spotify.<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t this how the music industry got in trouble?\u00c2\u00a0 By refusing to deliver what the public wanted?\u00c2\u00a0 First with Napster, then with DRM-free tunes?\u00c2\u00a0 Eventually the music business comes around, even stopping the dreaded RIAA suits.\u00c2\u00a0 Why wait now?\u00c2\u00a0 Why not allow Spotify to launch and ride the wave.\u00c2\u00a0 Which for all we know may have the lifespan of MySpace, Spotify being superseded by even a better service.<\/p>\n<p>No one computes on OS 9.\u00c2\u00a0 Or Windows 3.0.\u00c2\u00a0 But that&#8217;s what the CD is.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s how the rights holders operate.\u00c2\u00a0 Afraid of the future, of what could be lost, they try to prevent it from happening.\u00c2\u00a0 Kind of like Warner and NetFlix.\u00c2\u00a0 Yup, if we delay the rentability of titles then people will just buy them.\u00c2\u00a0 Huh?\u00c2\u00a0 No, they&#8217;ll just STEAL THEM!<\/p>\n<p>Technology moves faster than ever before.\u00c2\u00a0 The landscape is littered with the detritus of software that was once king and is now history.\u00c2\u00a0 Like WordStar.\u00c2\u00a0 Hell, remember when everybody used a dialup modem to access AOL?<\/p>\n<p>Spotify is not stealing.\u00c2\u00a0 In its free version it allows people the functionality of iTunes paid for via advertising.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe not paid enough, but once you get people hooked they&#8217;ll pay for usabilty, functionality, and access on their mobile devices.
