It was just before punk and new wave.\u00c2\u00a0 Just before disco.\u00c2\u00a0 The last hurrah of conventional, major label rock.\u00c2\u00a0 Only one thing, even though he’d been around for years, Gary Wright’s solo debut was anything but conventional.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh, it was comprised of songs, but the instrumentation was all SYNTHESIZERS!<\/p>\n
All these years later, "Dream Weaver" is in the "Wayne’s World" stoner canon along with "Bohemian Rhapsody".\u00c2\u00a0 But, "Love Is Alive" broke first.\u00c2\u00a0 And when I heard that synth intro, I was ENRAPTURED!<\/p>\n
Because of licensing issues, I couldn’t play the other music of the summer of ’75, most notably the Tubes debut.\u00c2\u00a0 There’s a podcast in the can covering "Physical Graffiti", but I played "Red Octopus" incessantly back then too.\u00c2\u00a0 No one expected this Jefferson _________ comeback.\u00c2\u00a0 And then they promptly jumped the shark.\u00c2\u00a0 But, when I hear Marty Balin sing "Just a drop of it" in "Miracles", I STILL crack up.\u00c2\u00a0 But, my favorite song on that album is "Play On Love".<\/p>\n
