When it comes to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…<\/p>\n
I’m not a “they-should-or-shouldn’t-be-in” kinda guy.<\/p>\n
But if Dick Clark, Don Cornelius, and Don Kirshner are in—<\/p>\n
Shouldn’t Ed and\/or The Ed Sullivan Show get acknowledged for non-performer influence.<\/p>\n
I’ve heard lots of music podcasts, as well as most of yours…<\/p>\n
When a musician or performer is asked what it was that inspired them to get started…<\/p>\n
The answer is almost always about a certain performance on a certain Sunday night TV show…<\/p>\n
And it wasn’t\u00a0 “Bonanza.”<\/p>\n

Very early in my personal management career I worked for a firm that represented Richard Pryor. \u00a0I was 24 years old. \u00a0I was sent to New York to \u2019service\u2019 Richard on The Ed Sullivan Show.<\/p>\n
There was always a dress rehearsal Sunday afternoon. \u00a0Ed would watch the rehearsal and decide what the running order was to be that evening. \u00a0A handwritten list was posted on an old bulletin board back stage. \u00a0When I saw the list, Richard was not on the list. \u00a0Ed didn\u2019t like the material and bumped him.<\/p>\n
I had the chore of explaining this to Richard. \u00a0 Not an easy task. \u00a0I earned some stripes that Sunday.<\/p>\n
