I’m sittin’ in my room, I’m starin’ out the window
And I wonder where you’ve gone<\/em><\/p>\n

Normally I go hiking Monday night.\u00c2\u00a0 But yesterday we had this rainstorm that not only inundated the mountains, making the trails too slippery to navigate, it came down so hard that my house was surrounded with water, for a while there, it was impossible to leave unless you had waders.<\/p>\n

Oh, eventually that water ran off.\u00c2\u00a0 It came down intermittently.\u00c2\u00a0 And stopped.\u00c2\u00a0 But I ended up staying home.\u00c2\u00a0 I’d say I got cabin fever, but the electricity still worked.\u00c2\u00a0 I sat in front of this computer all day.\u00c2\u00a0 It was my window to the world.\u00c2\u00a0 Still, it’s just a facsimile of real life.\u00c2\u00a0 I felt like I lacked human interaction.<\/p>\n

And now I find myself in the exact same situation.\u00c2\u00a0 Looking out the window into an alternately clear and dripping landscape.\u00c2\u00a0 It felt no good until I heard this song by the Doobie Brothers, "Another Park, Another Sunday".<\/p>\n

I just listened to this week’s podcast.\u00c2\u00a0 As good as I may or may not be, the MUSIC is FANTASTIC!\u00c2\u00a0 It took me a while to become a Doobie Brothers fan.\u00c2\u00a0 But now I listen to them as much as anybody.\u00c2\u00a0 Even Led Zeppelin.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s kind of my thing.\u00c2\u00a0 When I’m driving in my car and one of their songs comes over XM I feel like I’m bonded with long lost brothers.\u00c2\u00a0 I don’t think many of you share the same feeling, are affectionate towards the band.\u00c2\u00a0 But maybe, after hearing some of the snippets of songs I play on the podcast you’ll become intrigued, you’ll acquire some of their music, you’ll get hooked.<\/p>\n

It’s funny when music sneaks up on you.\u00c2\u00a0 Jimmy Kay had transferred "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits" and "The Captain And Me" to 8-track.\u00c2\u00a0 I had not driven from Salt Lake to California with him, but I was in his car plenty in Mammoth.\u00c2\u00a0 I remember being in that faded red bug hearing these songs with a shiteating grin on my face.\u00c2\u00a0 As they say today, it doesn’t get any better than that.<\/p>\n

And, at a reunion for Al’s birthday ten years ago, we all agreed.\u00c2\u00a0 That month of May ’75 was the highlight of our lives.\u00c2\u00a0 Great skiing, good buddies, good times.\u00c2\u00a0 That’s when I got hooked on "Ten Years Gone".\u00c2\u00a0 And learned I couldn’t live without this band from Santa Cruz.<\/p>\n

It may not be your thing.\u00c2\u00a0 You might desire something harder-edged.\u00c2\u00a0 But if you’re open-minded, if you like the combination of sweet and sour, of earnestness and guitars, you just might find the Doobie Brothers fit your pocket.<\/p>\n
