Steve Martin<\/span><\/p>\n

Have you noticed that he’s no longer funny?\u00c2\u00a0 He just says something and everybody laughs.\u00c2\u00a0 He was brilliant in "All Of Me".\u00c2\u00a0 Great in "Roxanne".\u00c2\u00a0 But he was curiously flat on SNL the other week, it was painful to watch, I had to turn it off.<\/p>\n

Milk<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not about first run, this is about cable and DVD.\u00c2\u00a0 As much as Sean Penn can bug me, he was truly great in this movie.\u00c2\u00a0 And you leave with the message that you’ve got to give people hope.\u00c2\u00a0 Hope that Gus Van Sant who wowed us so early could make another brilliant picture, which he did…<\/p>\n

I’m all for gay rights, but the screenplay winner was preaching to the converted.\u00c2\u00a0 We’ve got to go more grass roots.\u00c2\u00a0 Homophobia knows no bounds.\u00c2\u00a0 Now that we’ve got a black President, maybe we can eradicate homophobia?<\/p>\n

Slumdog<\/span><\/p>\n

I want it to win each and very award it’s nominated for.\u00c2\u00a0 Because this is great filmmaking, creating something that demands viewer involvement, that squeezes out every other thought in the viewer’s brain. And it’s a better roller coaster ride, and a better shock, than any amusement park ride.\u00c2\u00a0 Movies can still dazzle…\u00c2\u00a0 When you set the creators free.<\/p>\n

Wall-E<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of which…\u00c2\u00a0 Imagine if there were a record company solely about excellence.\u00c2\u00a0 That didn’t feed the product pipeline, just signed up the truly talented and allowed them to realize their dreams.\u00c2\u00a0 We’re not looking for hits, we’re looking for music, for art, that touches our souls.\u00c2\u00a0 When we find it we feel positively alive and want to tell everybody about it.\u00c2\u00a0 Too many records today have to be sold, whereas a great record penetrates the individual and then his friends and their friends via word of mouth.<\/p>\n

Dave Matthews<\/span><\/p>\n

Made me squirm.\u00c2\u00a0 If Dave sells out, that gives the impression anybody can.\u00c2\u00a0 And maybe should.\u00c2\u00a0 What’s worse, Dave aligning with the company or the AmEx pre-sales?\u00c2\u00a0 It would be one thing if everybody qualified for an American Express card.\u00c2\u00a0 Pre-sales are so pre-recession.\u00c2\u00a0 They’re about the haves and the have-nots.\u00c2\u00a0 The bankers fucked up our country, and are no better than the rest of us.\u00c2\u00a0 Money changes everything.\u00c2\u00a0 Especially when few have it.\u00c2\u00a0 We’re now all in this together.<\/p>\n

Ben Stiller<\/span><\/p>\n

First funny moment of the night.\u00c2\u00a0 Joaquin Phoenix’s Letterman appearance was the biggest story on the Web last week.\u00c2\u00a0 I’ve got to believe this was Ben’s idea, the Academy, producers and writers are too dumb and out of it to have come up with this.<\/p>\n

Natalie Portman has got an elegant image.\u00c2\u00a0 Great contrast to Ben.<\/p>\n

First winning moment of the night.<\/p>\n

Slumdog Again<\/span><\/p>\n

America loves a winner, we want something to rally around.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m predicting "Slumdog" wins Best Picture and then our whole country can feel good for a little while.\u00c2\u00a0 That a movie that almost went straight to video can go all the way.\u00c2\u00a0 If a boy can make it out of the slums of Mumbai, just maybe we can make it out of this recession.\u00c2\u00a0 This victory gives us the hope "Milk" talks about…<\/p>\n
