about the iPhone\/iPod Touch becoming a gaming platform?<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s Doug Morris&#8217; mistake.\u00c2\u00a0 He thinks the iPod is merely a music machine.\u00c2\u00a0 He thinks he&#8217;s got all the leverage, when he&#8217;s losing power daily.<\/p>\n<p>In the seventies, the first thing you did upon moving into a new apartment was set up your stereo.\u00c2\u00a0 You dropped the needle and played your vinyl as you unpacked.\u00c2\u00a0 If you were starting anew, having left a relationship, maybe you went to the local record store and purchased six or a dozen records to start completely over, with music that was special to you only.<\/p>\n<p>You snipped the speaker wire, hooked the JBLs\/Advents\/ARs to the amp, and then plugged in your turntable.\u00c2\u00a0 You dropped the needle and you got&#8230;euphoria!<\/p>\n<p>I just had that experience.\u00c2\u00a0 The modern equivalent of it.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had a Sonos system forever.\u00c2\u00a0 But I found it too cumbersome to search for the music I wanted to hear, by time I finally found it, I&#8217;d lost the urge.\u00c2\u00a0 But now I have instantaneous access, because my Sonos system is controlled by my iPod Touch!<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t say hookup was easy.\u00c2\u00a0 I was on the phone with their ever so helpful tech person for a couple of hours.\u00c2\u00a0 We were especially frustrated that the system wouldn&#8217;t see the music on my computer.\u00c2\u00a0 This gentleman wanted me to enable screen-sharing, he wanted to go deep into my Mac via the Terminal to root around and try to fix the problem.<\/p>\n<p>I said no.\u00c2\u00a0 Because when I upgrade my machine and have a problem, who am I gonna call?\u00c2\u00a0 I keep my computer stock, I don&#8217;t need any more upgrading trouble than I&#8217;ve already got.\u00c2\u00a0 He recommended doing the combo update, that it might fix the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, right.<\/p>\n<p>I took an hour from my day.\u00c2\u00a0 I repaired permissions, downloaded and installed the 10.5.5 combo pack, repaired permissions again and then it worked!\u00c2\u00a0 I was like a dad on Christmas morning, finally having figured out how to build that bicycle!<\/p>\n<p>Then we installed the Sonos app on my iPod Touch and I&#8217;ve been in hog heaven ever since.\u00c2\u00a0 Playing music in each and every room of my house.<\/p>\n<p>I just think of a track, and then I dial it right up!<\/p>\n<p>You see we installed Napster.\u00c2\u00a0 And Pandora.\u00c2\u00a0 We had trouble with Sirius and LastFM.\u00c2\u00a0 But I just picked up the iPod Touch and typed in what I wanted to hear via Napster the same way you send an e-mail on your iPhone.<\/p>\n<p>What did I listen to?<\/p>\n<p>David Ackles&#8217; &quot;American Gothic&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>The Beach Boys&#8217; &quot;Marcella&quot;, which I&#8217;d heard on Tom Petty&#8217;s &quot;Buried Treasure&quot; show on XM.<\/p>\n<p>A bit of 10cc.<\/p>\n<p>And now I&#8217;m listening to Stevie Winwood.\u00c2\u00a0 The original solo albums.\u00c2\u00a0 She bought the first one just before we moved in together, I bought the second right after I moved out.\u00c2\u00a0 Do you know &quot;Night Train&quot;?\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s the soundtrack of my move-in!<\/p>\n<p>I even fired up my real stereo.\u00c2\u00a0 To listen.\u00c2\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t played a CD in years.\u00c2\u00a0 And I may never again!<\/p>\n<p>All because of the iPod Touch.<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t even have to attach it to my computer, in order to sync it.\u00c2\u00a0 I downloaded the app wirelessly!\u00c2\u00a0 Just like you download a game.\u00c2\u00a0 To be able to control my Sonos system, in order to be able to hear the history of music through my entire house.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a couple of hundred bucks for the Sonos system.\u00c2\u00a0 And you&#8217;ve got to have an iPod Touch or an iPhone.\u00c2\u00a0 And a stereo.\u00c2\u00a0 But when you do, you tell yourself this is the way it&#8217;s supposed to be.\u00c2\u00a0 All your music at your fingertips.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px;\">\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonos.com\/whattobuy\/controllers\/iphone\/default.aspx?rdr=true&#038;LangType=1033\"><br \/>Sonos Controller for iPhone<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB122644912858819085.html\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Apple's iPhone Faces Off With the Game Champs\">Apple&#8217;s iPhone Faces Off With the Game Champs<\/a><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you read that story in the &quot;Wall Street Journal&quot;
