turned me off.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a ditty.\u00c2\u00a0 But this was more exciting than a Zeppelin reunion.\u00c2\u00a0 And when Robert started doing his vocal histrionics at the end, I said THIS IS ZEPPELIN!<\/p>\n<p>Turns out it truly is.\u00c2\u00a0 It was originally on the &quot;Walking Into Clarksdale&quot; album that Robert &amp; Jimmy did ten years ago.\u00c2\u00a0 But that take, which I didn&#8217;t even remember, didn&#8217;t do much for me when I downloaded it.\u00c2\u00a0 Sure, the same song, but it was about Jimmy&#8217;s guitar more than Robert&#8217;s vocal.\u00c2\u00a0 There was thunder, but no rain.<\/p>\n<p>Is T-Bone Burnett a better producer than Jimmy Page?\u00c2\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t been enamored of T-Bone&#8217;s solo work since &quot;Truth Decay&quot;, but he elicits a certain humanity from others in their performances.\u00c2\u00a0 He brings out what we can connect with as human beings.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re not going to drive around with your buddies in your Pinto getting drunk to the Plant\/Krauss rendition&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 But, if you&#8217;ve ever reflected on life, needed a track to get you through, this is the one you want to listen to.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p><a title=\"Please Read The Letter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/officialrobertplantalisonkrauss\" target=\"_blank\">Please Read The Letter<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>&quot;Say&quot;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t hate John Mayer, but I wouldn&#8217;t listen to one of his albums.\u00c2\u00a0 But this isn&#8217;t saccharine like the execrable &quot;Daughters&quot;. <br \/>\u00c2\u00a0And I don&#8217;t see him wincing as he&#8217;s performing guitar histrionics.<\/p>\n<p>I like the way it breaks down, with the acoustic instruments.\u00c2\u00a0 I like the intimacy.\u00c2\u00a0 If I didn&#8217;t know the guy&#8217;s history, I&#8217;d say this guy&#8217;s got something.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe this is what got all those guys at CIMS hooked to begin with.<br \/>An enigma.\u00c2\u00a0 A twenty first century artist.\u00c2\u00a0 Overexposed, all over the Web, yet still talented.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p><a title=\"Say - John Mayer\" href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=aTpy_L1dALA\" target=\"_blank\">Say &#8211; John Mayer<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>&quot;Now That You&#8217;re Gone&quot;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unlike the other tracks, which I heard on XM&#8217;s Loft or Sirius&#8217; Spectrum, a friend e-mailed me this.<\/p>\n<p>Sheryl Crow&#8217;s &quot;Globe Sessions&quot; was great.\u00c2\u00a0 But after that, she lost her way.\u00c2\u00a0 Either too obvious, or too obscure.\u00c2\u00a0 But although the verses are pedestrian, the transitions and the choruses hook you, make you want to hear the track again.\u00c2\u00a0 And there&#8217;s that great line:<\/p>\n<p><em>Now that you&#8217;re gone I can BREATHE!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Shit, I had that relationship, haven&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n<p>I wish she weren&#8217;t overselling this in the media.<\/p>\n<p>And, listening today, I realize this is a Bonnie Raitt track.\u00c2\u00a0 Bonnie would KILL IT!\u00c2\u00a0 But, Bonnie&#8217;s vocals have been a bit too controlled recently&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&quot;Seagull&quot;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t even sure how to spell the guy&#8217;s name!<\/p>\n<p>This is Joe Bonamassa singing the phenomenal final song from Bad Company&#8217;s debut.<\/p>\n<p>Covers are a cheap shot.\u00c2\u00a0 Look at Sheryl&#8217;s cover of &quot;The First Cut Is The Deepest&quot;.\u00c2\u00a0 But most people don&#8217;t even know this Bad Company track.\u00c2\u00a0 So for a youngster to pick it out, to hear it on the radio, put a smile on my face.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p><a title=\"Seagull\" href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=jCyv8RUDuxc\" target=\"_blank\">Seagull<\/a><\/p>\n<p \/><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>&quot;Everybody Knows&quot;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the best track of this collection.\u00c2\u00a0 And it&#8217;s by the artist everybody hates most.\u00c2\u00a0 Ryan Adams.<\/p>\n<p>Funny about music, you know instantly, whether something is good, certainly if it&#8217;s great.\u00c2\u00a0 &quot;Easy Tiger&quot; does not live up to the hype (and Ryan worked this album as much as Sheryl did hers).\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not &quot;Gold&quot;, certainly not &quot;Heartbreaker&quot;, but this KILLS!<\/p>\n<p>Each and every Ryan Adams record has at least one gem.\u00c2\u00a0 And you should search for it.<\/p>\n<p>I could quote the lyrics, but with truly great tracks, they&#8217;re irrelevant, an afterthought, a dollop of whipped cream on top of the sundae.\u00c2\u00a0 A great track grabs you, takes you somewhere immediately, a place you know well, but may not have thought of in a long while.\u00c2\u00a0 Listening to this reminds me of floating down a river in a rubber raft in the Sierras years back, checking out the scenery.<\/p>\n<p>The laconic intro, the lazy groove, the sudden intensity in the vocal&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A manager would restrict Ryan to one album a year.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;d tell him never to speak to the press, not even to the audience.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;d try to control him.\u00c2\u00a0 But as soon as you control someone, you squeeze the art right out of them.\u00c2\u00a0 With the Internet, we&#8217;re exposed to every foible.\u00c2\u00a0 And Ryan Adams has had many.\u00c2\u00a0 Because he&#8217;s too cute and too talented, he&#8217;s been able to get away with too much.\u00c2\u00a0 And it&#8217;s not a pretty picture.\u00c2\u00a0 But this is a pretty song.<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\">\n<p><a title=\"Everybody Knows\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/ryanadams\" target=\"_blank\">Everybody Knows<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&quot;Please Read The Letter&quot;
