Dear Teece

Why does it work when Lefsetz says it? I've been saying it and living it for nigh on FORTY YEARS and I'm STILL SAYING IT.

Did you happen to catch "The World Series of Pop Culture" on VH-1? I watched the entire run on Saturday, testing my own knowledge. They had a category, "party like it's 2006." The idea was the host would read some lyrics to "hit songs" from just last year and the contestants had to name the song. Six questions, back and forth. Neither contestant could answer any of them. Neither could I. By the 5th question's end, which means two people said "I have no idea"/"I don't know" ten times, the host said, "doesn't anyone listen to radio anymore?"" I almost jumped off my couch, screaming, "NO!!! They don't!!!" It was kind of an amazing moment, though, and apparently the only time a category - where people of all ages know the most obscure and random pop culture information - has been shut out 0 to 0 in this event.

It speaks volumes, and I thought you'd find that interesting, since it relates to so much of what you write about.

I don't understand why anyone gives a flying fuck about this. Why is this on drudge? why is this in the news? A major label artist fighting with her label about creative control... WHATS NEW?! This BS has been everywhere and it's nauseating. Yes it sucks that she had to fight the record company as an artist. Yes it's cool that she called out clive, but come on... that only matters to industry people. 15 year old girls REALLY couldn't care less. What's weird is that with all this exposure nothing really came out of it. She's apparently a super star but had to cancel a tour because of no ticket sales. With her face ALWAYS in the press why can't she sell tickets?

Daft Punk played in LA this weekend to what? 16000 people at the LA Sports Arena? Can we please talk about the "HOLY SHIT" factor of this? Two french guys in motorcycle helmets, who never talk to the press, and simply make music are selling out arenas and it seems like so many people are still in the dark. Incredible music, credibility, and just badassness. I wonder what Kanye's use of their sample from "Harder Better Faster Stronger" will do for ticket sales? Probably nothing as they actually have lifelong career fans who've already bought all the tickets!!! That's something that a lot acts can't even dream of... I don't even really like dance music, and I own every Daft Punk release.

Mr.Lefsetz

I read your blog for the first time today at the suggestion of Jay Weston.

I don't dwell on the past very often and am usually amused to read or hear the various views of our Warner story from writers or broadcasters who weren't there and their views of what did or didn't happen during that golden time.

It's especially of interest to me when I see that Ahmet and Mo, two of the best friends in my life, are solely responsible for our great achievements. It's long ago and I have received enough recognition and honors for my role in the labels I headed for 40 years.

I did sign James Taylor, Van Morrison,The Grateful Dead, The Doobie Bros, Rod Stewart, Bonnie Raitt among others at WB and several others while at Elektra. Obviously that wasn't contribution enough win any respect for the Lefsetz reporting.

I don't mean to sound cranky but every now and then when I see that I had no role in the making of this great company.

Yours Truly,
